THE PAIN WON'T QUIT, HEALTHCARE MUST NOT EITHER!
On
December 2, 2004, a unique panel of six representatives from
conventional, complementary and alternative practices of healthcare
shared their views and approaches to a hypothetical case of a 65
year-old male with a 25 year history of chronic back pain. The
discussion, held at the Tufts University School of Medicine, was
co-sponsored by the Integrative Medicine Alliance ("IMA") and the
Masters of Science in Pain research, Education and Policy program at

Practitioner's Corner
Essays By and About Practitioners
HOW TO HELP YOUR CLIENTS WHEN YOU CAN’T HELP
By Karl Berger, ABT,
LMT, Integrative Healthcare Consultant and Founder/Coordinator of
the IMA.
Healthcare
Practitioners know that as much as we want to help everyone who
comes to us for care, we cannot help all of them in all ways.
Sometimes our clients present with an ailment whose cure lies
outside our scope of practice or expertise, and we need to recommend
them to a professional peer or to suggest a different form of
healthcare altogether. From this need, a new industry has emerged:
that of the integrative healthcare consultant. The mission of the
consultant is to assist patients and practitioners as they navigate
through the complex array of healthcare choices that exist today.

therapies FOR PARKINSON’S Disease
Parkinson’s
disease (“PD”) is estimated to affect 1.4 million Americans. No cure
has been found for PD, and the present treatment options are often
ineffective and usually temporary. PD is caused by the malfunction
and death of cells in the thalamus of the brain which produces a
neurotransmitter called dopamine; reduced levels of dopamine cause
symptoms such as tremors, rigidity, and imbalance.

Create More Word of Mouth Business
By Jennifer Lewy,
Marketing Coach

clients find you? If you’re like many small businesses providing
professional services, it’s by word of mouth. When clients get a
referral to your practice, they’re ready to work with you because
you’re someone they “know.” And you have more success working with
them, because they have a pretty good idea about what they’re
looking for.
