Our Board of Advisers
LINDA BARNES, PH.D.
Dr. Barnes is Director of the Spirituality and Child Health Initiative
at Boston University School of Medicine. She is also Director of the
Healing Landscape Project: Complementary Healing in African Diaspora
Communities in Boston, a multi-year project based at Boston University,
in collaboration with Harvard Medical School. The project is investigating
traditional healing approaches in African immigrant, African-American,
Afro-Caribbean, Brazilian, and related communities within Boston.
ETHAN BASCH, MD
Dr. Basch is
Chief Editor of Natural Standard Research Collaboration, an information service to healthcare institutions
and medical professionals based in Cambridge, MA, which examines and assesses the clinical
evidence on the efficacy of complementary and alternative therapies. Natural Standard
provides multiple services including content, expert advice, chat areas, referral
services, practitioner licensing information, herb-drug interaction searching, and CME
online courses.
SUZANNE FOUNTAIN
Suzanne Fountain is Director of the
Jimmy Fund, the primary fundraising arm of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. She
oversees all event-based fundraising for the Institute, which generates over
$30 million per year. She also supervises all strategic planning, and is
responsible for a budget of over $2 million annually. She served on
the Integrated Therapies Task Force at Dana-Farber. Ms. Fountain
attended the University of Maine and holds a master’s degree in management
from Lesley College.
TED KAPTCHUK, OMD
Dr. Kaptchuk is Associate Director for the Center for Alternative Medicine
Research and Education at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston,
MA. He has a Doctorate in Oriental Medicine from the Macao Institute
of Chinese Medicine and is fluent in Chinese. He is the author of The Web
That Has No Weaver: Understanding Chinese Medicine. Dr. Kaptchuk
is currently Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
KATHI KEMPER, MD, MPH
Dr. Kemper is former Director of the Center for Pediatric Integrative Medical
Education and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital in
Boston. She was Founder of the Foundation for Pediatric Holistic Health
Research, and is past President of the Ambulatory Pediatric Association. She
is author of The Holistic Pediatrician as well as many research and
educational articles on herbal medicine and holistic pediatrics.
WEIDONG LU, LIC.AC. (NCCAOM)
Weidong Lu is
Chair of the Herbal Medicine Department at the New England School of Acupuncture, in
Watertown, MA. A 1983 graduate of the Zhejiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine,
Weidong Lu taught and conducted research in China before coming to the United States in
1991. He also practices acupuncture at the Zakim Center for Integrated Therapies at
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA.
BOB MASTER, MD
Dr. Master is Chief Medical
Officer of Neighborhood Health Plan, a Massachusetts-based not-for-profit health
maintenance organization providing care to a diverse population of Members, including
individuals and families who are enrolled in MassHealth (Medicaid.). Previously, he was
Assistant Director of for Clinical Programs at Boston University School of Public Health,
and President of Community Medical Alliance, a clinically-based care system that provided
a comprehensive set of benefits to people who are quadriplegic. In 1985, Dr. Master held
the position of Medical Director for the Massachusetts MassHealth (Medicaid) Program.
SHAYE MOORE, LMT
Shaye Moore is a
graduate of the Muscular Therapy Institute in Cambridge, MA and is
nationally certified in therapeutic massage and bodywork. At Hearts
for Hands, her private practice in Ipswich, MA, she specializes in massage
and movement therapies for infants, children, and youth, as well as infant
massage instruction. Shaye also serves as massage therapist for the
Heart and Wellness Center at North Shore Medical Center in Salem, MA.
JUNE RIEDLINGER, PHARM.D.
Dr. Riedlinger is
the IMA Board of Advisers
Liaison to the Board of Directors. She is Director of the Center for Integrative Therapies
in Pharamaceutical Care at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in
Boston, MA, where she is also Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacy. Dr. Riedlinger is
an acknowledged authority on drug-herbal interactions, and has published research on
homeopathy, traditional Chinese medicine, and other alternative therapies.
ROBB SCHOLTEN, MSLIS
Robb Sholten is Information Officer at the Division for Research and
Education of Complementary and Integrative Medical Therapies at Harvard
Medical School. Prior to this, he was Information Resources Manager at
the Center for Alternative Medicine Research and Education at Beth Israel
Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. He is an authority on the
research, development and practice of integrative medicine in and outside
New England.
JOHN WEEKS
John Weeks is considered to be one
of the nation's most knowledgeable authorities on the practical business of complementary
and alternative medicine integration. For five years, he was publisher of The Integrator,
the journal of record on the business of integrative healthcare. Weeks has
co-founded the Collaboration for Healthcare Renewal, a national initiative to
promote cooperation and common purpose amongst diverse industry stakeholders in the field
of integrative medicine.
ANDREW WEIL, MD
Dr. Weil is a
nationally-recognized leader in the integration of conventional and alternative medicine.
A graduate of Harvard Medical School, he is the founder of the Program in Integrative
Medicine at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center in Tucson. Dr. Weil is the
author of eight books, including Spontaneous Healing (1995), 8 Weeks to
Optimum Health (1997), and his most recent best-seller, Eating Well for
Optimum Health: The Essential Guide to Food, Diet, and Nutrition (2000).
