Living Proof: Celebrating Survivorship is an annual event designed to bring together survivors of all ages and their family members to honor the struggle and the journey to cancer survivorship. Sponsored by the Perini Family Survivors' Center, this event recognizes National Cancer Survivors Day in June. Approximately 200 people attended the 2007 event. This year's event will feature Thomas Sellers from the American Cancer Society as keynote speaker, along with other speakers who will share their stories of survivorship. The Boston-based Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy is offering a nine-month training program in mindfulness and psychotherapy. Significant emphasis will be placed on the clinical application of mindfulness to a wide range of populations and conditions, with attention to Western and Buddhist perspectives on health and healing, research, and first hand experience of mindfulness practice. The clinical and academic material will be studied in a manner that embodies the qualities of mindfulness, suffusing the inquiry with awareness, insight, and compassion for self and others, engaging both mind and heart.In all, students will receive over 120 hours of classroom-based faculty contact, 8 days of retreat-based meditation practice instruction, small group case consultation, and individual meditation consultation.
