INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE
The IMA sees integrative medicine as healthcare that shares these three qualities:
Collaborative:
Caregivers of all backgrounds--from surgeons to shamans--can and
should work together to help those under their care.
People-centered: It is up to people to determine their healthcare
and their healthcare system. This is part of living in a democracy.
Moreover, we must recognize that all people have the capacity to
give and receive care.
Sustainable: For health of our society and our planet, healthcare
must be environmentally and economically sustainable. It must
also be socially sustainable: we must stop "burning out"
our caregivers.
Healthcare has a long way to go before it fully embraces these
qualities. We think it's
time for a change.
